After a year of planning and months of building, our new bakery is finally finished! It has felt like the longest project of my life but I am so glad to be able to finally share it with you, ALMOST!
Because this was such a crazy project and it required so many months of work, it is almost impossible for me to write down everything in just one blog. So please bare with me while I split it up into a few different parts… Don’t worry though, I have added a few preview photos for you!
We started looking at new spaces over a year ago, knowing that we no longer fit into our old studio anymore. We originally rented our old studio with the idea that only I would be working there; never imagining there would be six of us running around at the same time in such a small space! But of course, I am so incredibly grateful for all of the things that have happened in that studio because it was that space that allowed us to grow into what we are today.
When we knew we needed to expand and started looking at new spaces, I knew that I wanted a space big enough for a shop. A sweet and delicious cake shop is something I’ve always missed while living here, and I really wanted to bring some of my Californian memories over to Holland. I wanted a place where we could sell sweets but specifically a place where people could peek through our windows into our kitchen and really get inspired by our work! I wanted to create a place that got people excited.
It didn’t take us long to find our shop, in fact it was the first one we went to look at, and I immediately knew it was the one. The space was absolutely enormous and there were windows everywhere. As a cake decorator, there is nothing better than a whole lot of light, so I was pretty much already sold! On top of that, the location was perfect. It was situated right in the middle of a shopping center (Winkelcentrum Terwijde) and had plenty of families within the area. I remembered while working at my old bakery jobs how excited children got when running up to the counter and when I saw the amount of families walking around, I knew we could create that same feeling here.
Overall, the search for a new location wasn’t as difficult as I expected it to be, because I knew going in exactly what I was looking for. That being said though, this was probably the scariest step we’ve ever taken with our company and that was the hardest part of it all for me. Of course I say this with every new step we take, but with our determination and our strength together as a team, I knew we could do amazing things with this new space and I knew it needed to happen!
